This presentation explores the fundamental interaction between lasers and materials, with a detailed examination of the melt pool lifecycle—including its generation under high-energy irradiation, dynamic expansion driven by thermal gradients, and stabilization through controlled solidification. It further investigates the origins of porosity defects in laser deposition, analyzing key contributing factors such as gas entrapment, keyhole instability, and insufficient melt flow, while tracing the evolution of pores from nucleation to final microstructure. Finally, the talk highlights the application of laser deposition technology in repairing high-performance aerospace materials, discussing process optimization, defect mitigation strategies, and case studies of restored components like turbine blades and structural alloys, demonstrating its potential for extending service life and reducing costs in critical aviation systems.
