Title: The Effect of Porosity on the Mechanical and Thermal Insulation Properties of Ultra-Thick Thermal Barrier Coatings and Its Synergistic Optimization
Profile:
Prof. Peng Song is a doctoral supervisor and Vice Dean of the School of Civil Aviation and Aeronautics at Kunming University of Science and Technology. He received his Ph.D. from RWTH Aachen University, Germany. His research focuses on the design of high-fracture-toughness coatings and thermal spray technologies, and he proposed the concept of a "quantitative gradient structure" at ceramic–metal (including fiber composites) interfaces. Prof. Song has published 158 academic papers, including 128 SCI-indexed articles, and authored three monographs, such as Thermal Barrier Coatings and High-Temperature Oxidation and Protection of Metallic Materials for Heat Engines. He was selected for the China Nonferrous Metals Innovation and Excellence Program (2024) and the Yunnan Xingdian Talent Program (2018, 2022). He received the First Prize of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Science and Technology Award (2021) and the Innovation Award from the China Association of Inventions (2024). His lightweight piston-cylinder surface coating technology was recognized among the “Top 10 Advances in Surface Technology in China” (2025). Over the past decade, he has led the development of internal bore spray guns, complex-surface tooling, and high-performance plasma spray systems. In April 2025, Prof. Peng Song’s team transformed their coating technology patents into industrial outcomes by establishing Yunnan Zhichuan YunCeng Technology Co., Ltd., with a total investment of RMB 300 million. The company focuses on advanced coating solutions for engine components and key flow parts, serving sectors such as low-altitude economy, transportation, metallurgy, and hydropower.
