Title:
Low temperature nitriding of specialty austenitic alloys
Profile:
Xiao Tao is an Associate Professor at Southeast University in Nanjing, China. After earning his Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield in 2018, he worked as a researcher on the AMTECA project in the Surface Engineering Group at Birmingham University from 2019 to 2023. His research focuses on plasma-based thermochemical diffusion treatments and related technologies to enhance the wear and corrosion resistance of special alloys, as well as surface functionalization for battery applications. His research interests include: i) Surface treatments to improve wear and corrosion resistance, ii) Interstitial-expanded austenite, iii) Surface functionalization for batteries
Currently, Xiao Tao leads four research projects, including those funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) of China and the NSF of Jiangsu Province. He also participates in a national key R&D program in China. To date, he has authored over 30 SCI-indexed publications, with more than 10 first or corresponding-authored papers in journals such as Acta Mater, Scripta Mater, and Surf & Coat Technol. He has been a reviewer for journals such as Scripta Mater, Surf & Coat Technol, and MMTA. Additionally, he is a professional member of the IOM3, a senior member of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, and became a Chartered Engineer in 2022.
