Profile:

Dr Dongdong Xu is an Associate Professor and PhD supervisor at Tongji University. He is a Marie Curie Fellow of the European Union, a young member of CIRP (for two consecutive terms), a Shanghai High-level Overseas Talent, and a Pujiang Talent. He has long been engaged in research on key technologies and scientific issues related to the processing, manufacturing, and service performance of difficult-to-machine materials used in aero engines. His work includes advanced composite (energy beam) processing, the formation mechanisms of surface integrity, and macroscopic failure mechanisms. He has led multiple national and provincial-level scientific research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Aviation Science Foundation, the Military Commission Equipment Development projects, the UK's EPSRC, and the EU Horizon 2020 (Clean Sky 2) program. He has been responsible for and participated in numerous Rolls-Royce aero engine manufacturing and EU aerospace processing projects. After obtaining his master’s degree from Beihang University, he received full funding from the European Union to pursue his PhD at the Rolls-Royce Manufacturing and Technology Centre and the University of Nottingham, under the supervision of Professor Dragos Axinte, editor-in-chief of IJMTM and JMPT journals and director of the Rolls-Royce Centre. He has established close collaborations with many advanced aerospace manufacturing institutions across Europe, including in the UK, Sweden, Spain, and Switzerland.
